3. Social Media Manager/Marketing Coordinator

4. Digital Content Producer

5. Membership Marketer

Background

Dancing in the Streets, Inc. is a Bronx-based non-profit arts organization founded in 1984. Five years ago, the Mayor’s office asked Dancing in the Streets to start the program, It’s Showtime NYC (IST) to provide work opportunities and career development for NYC’s subway and street dancers, as a legal alternative to dancing on the subways. Over the years the program has evolved through collaborative teamwork between the dancers, a small team of dedicated program administrators, outside consultants and advisors, a range of funders and the Board of Directors of Dancing in the Streets.

In the early years, IST dancers were invited to weekly open session rehearsals and were provided pre-paid permits to perform legally in parks. Currently our dancers participate in paid rehearsals, collaborate with major street dance choreographers, and are developing a repertory that we aim to tour to performing arts stages and festivals. Our dancers have also received basic training in dance-teaching, choreography, commercial shoot work, marketing, branding, administrative skills, production management and dance-tourism and several of our dancers are currently in roles of managers-in-training. Through IST, dancers have received work as: performers at the MET Museum, the Shed, Abrons, SummerStage, Jacob’s Pillow, Weeksville, HarlemStage, Apollo; recent commercial work for Coach, AT&T, and New Balance; as teachers at a number of public schools and community centers; as dance-tourism guides through our self-generated program marketed through Airbnb and Expedia; and they have toured France, Brazil and the Netherlands. The dancers also attend regular group and support discussions. Dancers also receive on-going coaching on work skills, etiquette, conflict resolution and time management. The program is funded through grants & donors as well as performance, teaching and tourism-guide fees.

IST dancers participate in a number of group decisions and inclusive discussions.

During COVID-19 dancers are rehearsing and meeting online via zoom. As performing arts work and other in-person jobs are unavailable during the pandemic, we must now turn our attention to creating more online branding and profile for the program and our dancers.

New Digital Content to possibly include: street dance battle, new digital dance pieces, bio-videos on dancers, serial campaigns, digital street dance tours of the South Bronx, EPK’s for bookings, press, funders; digital dance classes; donation campaigns
