Dancing in the Streets began producing Dances for Wave Hill, an annual outdoor performance series, in partnership with Wave Hill in 1990. Wave Hill (www.wavehill.org ) is a spectacular 28-acre public garden and cultural center overlooking the Hudson River and the Palisades in the northwest Bronx. A former estate whose famous residents have included Arturo Toscanini, Wave Hill boasts internationally acclaimed gardens, rolling lawns, and woodlands. Programs in horticulture, environmental education, land management, and the visual, performing, and literary arts serve to foster connections between people and nature. Dancing in the Streets has commissioned two to ten choreographers per year to create new works inspired by and reflective of Wave Hill's magnificent grounds and views. The series began as a laboratory for artists to experiment with the creation and performance of site work and continues to highlight the work of established and emerging choreographers each year.
